This is a private reference site, not a government office. We cannot confirm whether someone is in custody, release a person from jail, post bond, schedule a visit, or pull official booking records. Custody, release, bond, and record-copy questions must go to the agency that holds or created the record.
Where to Look First
For local jail questions, the main official contact is the Marion County Sheriff's Office at the Marion County Law Enforcement Center, 211 N Godfrey Lane, Knoxville, IA 50138. Sheriff Jason Sandholdt's office lists public lobby hours Monday through Friday, 8:00 A.M. to 4:30 P.M., open through lunch, with holiday closures. The jail line is (641) 828-2245, dispatch is (641) 828-2220, and civil division questions use (641) 828-2247. Public records questions may be routed to Public Information Officer Emily Feagins at 641-205-3721 or efeagins@marioncountyiowa.gov, and Marion County also uses its Information Requests form under Iowa Code Chapter 22.
- For someone in the county jail, start with jail inmate records and the official Marion County "Who's in Jail?" page.
- For booking photos, use jail roster mugshots and the Marion County Information Requests form if no photo is shown online.
- For charges filed after booking, check court records after a jail arrest, Iowa Courts Online, and the Marion County Clerk of Court at 641-828-2207.
- For a facility question, use the Marion County Jail / Marion County Law Enforcement Center page linked in the footer.
- For a sentenced state prisoner, search Iowa DOC Offender Search using the statewide locator and Marion County as the county of commitment when useful.
- For federal or immigration custody, use the BOP Inmate Locator or ICE Online Detainee Locator, since Marion County does not operate those systems.
